What is ACM?
ACM is real-time adaptive machining software from the Siemens CNC shopfloor portfolio. It continuously monitors spindle load during cutting and automatically adjusts the feed rate to match the actual conditions at the tool tip — speeding up through light cuts, easing off in heavy engagement, and protecting the tool and spindle throughout.
Your part programs stay exactly as they are. ACM works on top of them.
What it delivers

Breakage detection — down to the cuts nobody can watch
Adaptive control protects tools in heavy roughing. But most tool disasters start small: a 2 mm drill snaps in a hole nobody is watching, and the next twenty parts are scrap. The monitoring side of ACM is built exactly for these cases — the ones conventional monitoring gives up on:
- Tools down to 1 mm diameter
- Cuts shorter than 1 second in material
- Engineered to minimise false alarms — monitoring that cries wolf gets switched off, so ACM is tuned to alarm only when it matters
Roughing is protected by adaptive control; the short, small, fragile operations are covered by breakage detection. Together they watch the whole process — which is what makes unsupervised machining realistic.
The ACM web console — your process, visible from anywhere
Every ACM machine reports to a web console that gives your process a data layer:
- Remote control — adjust operation settings, fine-tune live, set up new workpieces, and transfer proven settings from one machine to another
- Analytics — tool usage across NC programs, cycle-time and tool-life comparisons between settings, historical data export
- KPIs — alarms, uptime, runtime counters and recorded cycle-time savings, ready for your own dashboards
- APIs for integrating ACM data with other shopfloor systems

Which controls does ACM run on?
ACM integrates natively with SINUMERIK 840D sl and SINUMERIK ONE. For new machines it is also available on SINUMERIK 828, and further platforms are added as the market demands.
